Follow these steps to configure Microsoft Windows XP to connect to Silicon Dairy.

Step 1

Begin by clicking the Start Button and choose Control Panel from the menu that pops up.

Step 2

In the Control Panel window, click on Network and Internet Connections.

Step 3

Click on Set up or change your Internet connection.

Step 4

Under the Connections tab, click on the button labeled Setup.

Step 5

You should now see the New Connection Wizard with a message welcoming you to the wizard to set up your Internetc connection. Click the Next button.

Step 6

This screen asks how we want to proceed. Select Connect to the Internet, and then click the Next button.

Step 7

When asked how you want to connect to the Internet, select Set up my connection manually, and click the Next button.

Step 8

Choose Connect using a dial-up modem, and click the Next button.

Step 9

The wizard will now ask us to name this connection. The name here is not important. You can name the connection anything you wish. The name entered here will appear underneath the icon you will use to connect to the Internet. For the purposes of this guide, we will name the connection SiliconDairy.Net. Click the Next button when finished entering the name.

Step 10

Type in your local access number assigned to you during the signup process. If you do not remember your dial-up access number, use our ->Dialup Access Number search tool. Click the Next button to continue.

Step 11

If you're running Windows XP Home Edition (most home PCs will), you can skip to Step 12. This step only applies to Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Choose the option Anyone's Use and click the Next button.

Step 12

Enter your username in all lower case letters. You will notice your password will apear as black "dots" as you type it. This is normal.

If you have a computer used by multiple people in your household, it is recommended you check Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.

Check the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.

The Internet Connection Firewall is also recommended.

When done, click the Next button.

Step 13

Check the box (if it's not already) next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop and click the Finish button to complete the process.

You're done making the connection! Now, let's go online!

Step 14

You should find a new icon on your desktop that looks similar to this one. It will be named whatever you called this new connection back in Step 9. Double-click on the new icon.

Step 15

A new dialer window will appear. Double-check the settings displayed here and click connect when you're ready. Be sure your modem is connected to the phone line ( and no one is on the phone!)

Welcome to the Internet!

Your computer should pick up the phone line, dial, and connect to the Internet through Silicon Dairy. From here, you can browse the web by opening your favorite browser, or read and send e-mail with your ->e-mail software.

Is Your Computer Up To Date?

If you have never visited ->Microsoft Update, your computer could be at risk! Regardless of any anti-virus or anti-spyware software you may have, if your computer is not up-to-date, simply connecting to the Internet could put your system at risk.

It is recommended to visit ->Microsoft Update at a minimum of once per month.
